The Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) saw a net return of 11.9% in 2019, with weaker returns in alternative investment strategies such as private equity and real estate.
Of course, the double-digit gains help put 2018’s net return of 2.3% in the rear-view mirror.
Still alternative investment returns were less strong than in 2018 when private equity soared 13.5% and infrastructure investment gained more than 10% as real estate was up nearly 9% as the U.S. stock market declined in the fourth quarter.
