Alternative Income Solutions launched its initial multi-strategy, multi-manager fund offering last month and has garnered investor interest at a time when investors are seeking new ways to approach credit strategies.
The August launch had key seed investors, contributing an undisclosed sum.
Andrew Saunders, co-founder and principal of Alternative Income Solutions, said that the new offering is positioned as viable niche investment portfolio for high-net-worth investors seeking ways to outperform traditional credit holdings in a low interest rate environment.
The main pitch is for enhanced retirement security in a time of great traditional market uncertainty for individual investors and their financial advisors via eight initial underlying funds with an eye on a wide range of investment strategies spanning art lending, media financing, real estate lending, life settlements, jewelry lending and even litigation finance strategies.
“It is our goal to deliver a tool that clients can use to diversify their investment portfolios and provide a source of meaningful income,” said Don Plotsky, co-founder and principal of Alternative Income Solutions. “We will offer clients a basket of complementary specialty finance and alternative income strategies accessible with a single subscription and tax document. Each strategy, and the portfolio overall, will strive to deliver high income, low risk of loss and little or no correlation to the broad market.”
The founders each hold their current roles in the alternative investment industry separately from their new fund. Together they have sourced the underlying strategies from their respective roles of capital raising and investing.
“These opportunities can be difficult to find, underwrite, diligence and access,” Plotsky said. “We seek to deliver a professionally curated and managed portfolio.”
Saunders is currently president of Castle Hill Capital Partners, Inc., a New York-based broker-dealer and capital raising firm that works primarily with institutional investors. Alternatives Watch caught up with Saunders earlier this year as he outlined how the pandemic has impacted aspects of fund marketing.
Plotsky, meanwhile is a co-founder and managing member of Uinta Investment Partners, a Utah-based multi-family office and RIA with investments in several of the underlying assets and strategies.
The pair came up with the idea for the firm over the course of successfully investing and raising capital for alternative income strategies.
“We both spend extensive time sourcing, conducting diligence and presenting/managing alternative income and specialty finance strategies,” said Saunders. “Thoughtfully combining those strategies that we advise and currently invest in, into a single portfolio and making that portfolio available to a much broader range of accredited investors is a logical extension of our current efforts.”
