Keiko Sydenham, former Managing Director at Blackstone Group in Japan, has partnered with three other investors to bring alternative investments to Japanese investors via a new digital platform called LUCA.
Headline Asia and Northvillage Investment Co. teamed up with Sydenham following her two decades of fundraising experience including previously at J.P. Morgan Asset Management.
The digital platform will include access to private equity, real estate, hedge funds and private credit and will be open to investors outside Japan as well, but the founders expect the digitalization of the subscription process to lead to a transformational change in the fundraising landscape in Japan.
“The world is becoming more borderless with digital technology,” Sydenham, who is now CEO of LUCA. “We believe the latest innovation will enhance efficiency in alternative investment processes and scalability of capital raising.”
The other partners have footprints in the venture capital and private equity arena in Tokyo. Headline Asia was founded in 2009 and has invested in more than 100 companies across the region including in Japan’s biggest robo-advisory firm WealthNavi. Northvillage is a private equity group that launched in 2020.
