Sun Capital Partners added Sami Abbasi to its healthcare team as managing director of operations, to drive operational transformation for the firm’s growing portfolio of healthcare organizations.
Boca Raton, Florida-based Sun Capital is a global private equity firm that helps management teams accelerate value creation. “Over the past several years, we have established a strong track record of helping healthcare organizations capitalize on opportunities for operational improvement, identify new avenues for growth and achieve strong performance,” said Managing Director Dan Florian. “Sami’s insights and expertise across the healthcare spectrum will help us continue to further develop our practice and build on our reputation as a leader in the sector.”
Abbassi served most recently as president and CEO of Unifeye Vision Partners, a physician practice management company he co-founded. Under his leadership, Unifeye grew to perform about 350,000 patient visits and 35,000 surgical procedures per year. Prior to that he was president and CEO of PhyMed Healthcare Group, which expanded its footprint from one to six states and grew revenue and EBITDA more than 35% and 50%, respectively, on his watch.

The firm’s current healthcare portfolio comprises Clinical Care, a provider of primary care, specialty care and ancillary services to Medicare Advantage plan members; Simply Beautiful Smiles, which provides general dentistry, hygiene and specialty services at 33 locations in the Northeast; and West Dermatology, a clinical dermatology platform with locations in Arizona, California and Nevada.
