Emerging market hedge funds in Russia and Eastern Europe saw a steep decline in February, according to data provider HFR.
The HFRI EM Russia/Eastern Europe Index fell -36.3%, the firm said as the overall emerging markets sector declined by -4.5% last month. The Russia/Eastern Europe Index had led emerging market performance in 2021 with 20.7% gain.
The impact of soaring oil prices, sanctions against Russia and the threat of Russian sovereign debt default has touched off various concerns across emerging markets.
