Franklin Templeton appointed John Ivanac as senior vice president and consultant adviser of U.S. Institutional Services, focused on alternative investment capabilities in the U.S.
Based in the firm’s New York City office, Ivanac will report to Mike Foley, who is head of U.S. Institutional Services and oversees Franklin Templeton’s U.S. institutional direct sales, consultant relations and relationship management teams. Foley serves as a liaison to institutional distribution leaders at the $1.45 trillion firm’s independent specialist investment managers.
Ivanac will work closely with relationship management teams and will serve as a key liaison with clients and consultants, in this newly created role. His focus will be on the firm’s alternative investment capabilities that spans across real estate, private credit, secondary private equity and co-investments, venture capital and hedge fund strategies.
Recently Franklin Templeton acquired Alcentra, a European alternative credit specialist and with that acquisition the alternative assets at the firm will swell to $257 billion.
“Alternative investments represent a significant diversification tool and an area of increasing importance for institutional investors,” said Foley. “John is well known among the institutional investor community, and his expertise in the alternatives space will help us continue delivering the high-quality service our institutional clients and their consultants have come to expect.”
Previously, Ivanac was at Partners Group, where he was managing director within the client solutions team and was U.S. head of consultant relations. Prior to that he was global head of alternatives for BlackRock’s consultant relations team, where he was a key player in that firm’s global strategy to commercialize alternative investment strategies.
“Franklin Templeton has demonstrated a clear commitment to the institutional market by focusing on high-conviction, world-class solutions and providing clients greater access to non-traditional sources of return through private markets and alternative strategies,” said Ivanac. “I’m excited to join this experienced team to help deliver the breadth and scale of Franklin Templeton’s alternative asset offerings to institutional clients.”
