Richard Elder, former chief transformation officer and EVP, strategy and growth at Carlyle-backed Nouryon, joins Carlyle itself in a newly expanded role as head of Global Portfolio Solutions (GPS).
GPS, formerly Global Investment Resources (GIR), provides insight and support to Carlyle’s investment process and portfolio value improvement efforts. The unit’s global team includes experts across digital, talent, procurement, information technology and other disciplines.
Elder reports to Pete Clare, chief investment officer for private equity and chairman of Americas Private Equity. The $325 billion firm’s in-house operational resources will come together with Carlyle’s strategy-focused investment teams, network of advisors, and ecosystem of partners to increase the speed and scale of building better businesses around the world, officials said.
“This is an important expanded global role that underscores our commitment to drive consistent and repeatable value creation through the entire investment life cycle,” said Clare of the addition of Elder. “We have had the privilege of working closely with Richard for many years and his commitment to transformational strategy and commercial excellence has played an instrumental role turbocharging Nouryon’s growth.”
At Nouryon, Elder led the business’ transformation, strategy, M&A and commercial excellence initiatives. He joined the company in 2019 after a 25-year career at McKinsey & Company, where he was a senior partner in its Washington, D.C. office, and a leader in its transformation, private equity and organization practices.
