Will Beam is now a managing director of acquisitions at Mesirow Institutional Real Estate Direct Investments, a group that has more than $4.5 billion in real estate investments.

Based in Chicago, Beam will focus on all aspects of the acquisition process as part of a team that invests in the multi-family sector across the top 25 to 30 markets across the U.S.
“Will has a proven track record in the direct real estate investment space, specializing in multi- and single-family rental housing, and deep relationships, spanning the breadth and scope of the industry, that will enhance our capabilities to serve clients,” said Alasdair Cripps, CEO/CIO of Mesirow Institutional Real Estate Direct Investments.
Beam joins Mesirow from Magnolia Capital, where he was managing director and principal of investments and business development. Prior to that role, he was named partner at Heitman after working in multi-family acquisitions for 13 years. During his career, Beam has helped lead acquisitions, financing and dispositions along with raising capital for new products.
“I am pleased to be joining Mesirow,” said Beam. “I look forward to deepening the senior investment knowledge on the team as we continue to capitalize on opportunities in the residential apartment sector.”
Mesirow’s own track record includes the acquisition, management, repositioning and selling of 34,000 multi-family units. The team considers a number of factors and demographic trends as part of the investment process. Under the microscope are stats related to population, migration, immigration growth, and unemployment rates. Trends that the group eyes include high job growth markets in comparison to national and regional averages; high barriers to entry for new supply; home ownership affordability and building of infrastructure in terms of freeways, ports and air service.
