- HarbourVest Partners named Javier Rodriguez as a managing director and head of client operations — a newly created role in the Boston office that will put him in charge of the cross-functional integration of the firm’s client experience, investment accounting, treasury, portfolio analytics and performance measurement teams. Rodriguez joins from Goldman Sachs & Co., where he spent almost 20 years and served most recently as a managing director and head of RIA custody operations and client experience.
- Braven named Dr. Sean Khozin as a senior life sciences and healthcare partner. A physician-executive, board-certified oncologist and data scientist, Dr. Khozin brings over 15 years of experience including working as Johnson & Johnson’s global head of data strategy and data science innovation, guiding the company’s early strategic equity investments in the sector, and serving as a senior medical officer and the associate director of the Food and Drug Administration’s Oncology Center of Excellence for seven years. New York-based Braven is an early-stage investor with a focus on healthcare and other heavily regulated sectors.
- MidOcean Partners named Matt Maddox to its executive board. Maddox, the former CEO of Wynn Resorts, brings over two decades of experience in the hospitality and gaming industries to serve as a value-additive partner to the MidOcean team and MidOcean’s portfolio companies, which include consumer product businesses in sectors including food, automotive and toys.
- Jacmel Growth Partners named Mark Hardaway to the newly created role of chief financial officer. Hardaway, who has 15 years of experience in senior finance positions across a range of companies, was most recently a senior treasury officer at the University of California at Los Angeles. In his new role, he will oversee the financial operations for Jacmel and its holdings, in addition to helping portfolio companies implement best-in-class financial strategies, risk management and operational practices. Based in Brooklyn, New York, Jacmel is a minority-owned private equity firm focused on family-operated, lower middle market companies.
- Alpha Impact 8 Ventures (AI8 Ventures) appointed Nikolas Schrobenhauser as co-managing partner. Schrobenhauser, whose experiences includes leadership positions at Och-Ziff Capital Management and K2 Advisors, will work on expanding the firm’s overall U.S. and global growth while co-managing day-to-day business operations. San Francisco-based AI8 Ventures is a venture capital firm investing in women- and minority-led startups.
- Copenhagen-based IDC Ventures (IDVC) named Jaclyn Baumgarten as a managing partner and the head of its U.S. operations. Baumgarten was the founder of Boatsetter, a technology- and data-driven global boat marketplace backed by IDVC. She is expected to use the experience and expertise gained in scaling this global business to IDC Ventures and its portfolio companies.
- Jerusalem Venture Partners (JVP) named Shlomi Hagai as partner and head of the international JVP Cyber-Climate-tech center in New York. Shlomi, who served most recently as group CFO of French/U.S./Israeli digital experience analytics provider Contentsquare, has over 25 years of experience as a CEO and CFO of fast-growing international technology companies, including some JVP portfolio companies. He will be focused on help JVP’s portfolio companies scale up as they are building their New York marketing and sales operations and grow their international market share.
- B Capital named Don Wood as a venture partner focused on climate technology. Wood, whose recent roles venture partner and advisor at Energy Impact Partners, brings over 25 years of experience as a venture capitalist and climate tech specialist to his new position. Los Angeles-based B Capital’s climate tech portfolio currently comprises eight investments across the U.S. and Asia, including Accacia, which provides artificial intelligence-enabled decarbonization solutions to the real estate industry, and Patch Technologies, a provider of solutions to connect buyers and sellers of carbon credits.
Real Estate/Infrastructure
- ArcLight Capital Partners named Leo Denault as a senior advisor and member of the ArcLight Power Infrastructure board. Denault served as chairman and CEO of Entergy before retiring from the position earlier this year. He will work with middle market infrastructure specialist ArcLight on new power and utility investments.
- Leste Group appointed Miguel Zablah as director and head of investor relations. Zablah was previously vice president of investor relations at I Squared Capital, and head of investor services at H.I.G. Capital, in addition to holding various alternative investment-related positions at J.P. Morgan. He will be responsible for managing investor communications at the global level for the Miami-based firm’s private equity, real estate credit, and special situations strategies.
- BentallGreenOak (BGO) appointed Ryan Severino to the newly-created role of chief economist and head of research. Joining from JLL, where he served as chief Economist and managed the economics team, Severino brings 25 years of experience. At BGO, a New York-based real estate investment management advisor and provider of real estate services, he will work on global and regional economic research, analysis, and commentary, in addition to providing property market forecasting for the firm’s investment and portfolio management teams.
Hedge funds
- Man Group appointed Robyn Grew as its next CEO after Luke Ellis announced his decision to retire later this year. Grew, who has been with the firm for 14 years, is currently Man Group president and a member of its senior executive committee (read more).
Credit
- Pemberton Asset Management has hired Harriet Steel as partner and head of global clients — a new role that will have her overseeing business development, investor relations, marketing, communications and sustainable investing. Steel, based in London, brings three decades of financial services experience, most recently as head of business development, international at Federated Hermes (read more).
Service providers
- John Sorkin is joining Eva Carman as co-lead of Ropes & Gray‘s New York office boasting more than 500 lawyers. As a partner in the firm’s M&A and private equity practice, Sorkin has worked practices, in addition to mentoring attorneys and staff and advancing the firm’s DEI initiatives. The New York team serves sectors including private equity, asset management, life sciences, health care, technology and real estate.
- McDermott Will & Emery made three additions to its Private Client Practice Group. Anita Rosenbloom, John Kiely and Jay Scharf all join from Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, where Rosenbloom acted as chair of the Private Client Services Group. Rosenbloom and Kiely join the New York officer as partner and counsel, respectively, while Scharf joins the Miami office as partner. McDermott’s Private Client Practice Group serves ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families, as well as their family offices
- Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) named Rishi Chhatwal as managing director within its Disputes and Investigations practice’s Forensic Technology Services group. Chhatwal brings expertise in policies and procedures for global data governance and government response, among other areas; he served most recently as director and associate general counsel of eDiscovery and information governance at Coinbase. His focus at A&M will be on regulatory risk, M&A discovery and information management, and fintech investigations.
