With aiming of helping cancer patients and entrepreneurs, the charity Music Beats Cancer is hosting a benefit concert on June 8 at Terminal 5 at 610 W. 56th Street in New York City.
Music Beats Charity was founded by Dr. Mona Jhaveri to support cancer research and address the severe funding gap that forces scientists to abandon their work on cancer-fighting inventions. Last year one of the companies backed by the Music Beats Cancer fund was Hawaii-based digital health start up TeleMedicX.
One of the supporters of the group is Andy Fisch, CIO and president of Five Oceans Collaborative Investments, a firm that supports family office investments in co-investment types of deals. Many in the industry may remember him from his days at the fund of hedge funds SSARIS, but prior to that he ran a venture capital fund that worked in the biotech arena. Fisch today also serves on the Music Beats Cancer executive committee.
“Music Beats Cancer helps early-stage companies in cancer-related biotech and MedTech that are past research but too early to get investment,” Fisch added. “It helps them to get data or compounds, testing, etc. until they are positioned to be able to raise the size of investment required to scale to a meaningful point.”
The June 8 benefit concert will help Music Beats Cancer to honor cancer survivors and biomedical innovators looking to make a difference, organizers say.
“Where words fail, Music Beats Cancer. It resonates within our souls, uplifts our spirits, and brings harmony to the fight,” wrote Noah Parekh, who is managing director of LifeSci Partners and Master of Ceremonies for the event. He is also member of the Blu Honey Band. Parekh added, “Let the rhythm of hope, the melody of strength, and the symphony of resilience guide us on this extraordinary journey towards healing.”
The concert and red carpet meet and greet will feature special guest New York Giants Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor. The musical act will be Led Zeppelin tribute band Get the Led Out.
