The State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB) in Madison allocated over $2 billion to alternative investments, roughly half of which went to hedge fund strategies in the first quarter of 2023.
The alpha pool at the $149 billion investment fund has shifted since 2022 from being 90% hedge funds to a mix of multi-strategy funds and global equity programs. Hedge funds now make up $7.3 billion of the overall $11 billion portfolio. The program has returned over 1% for the year through March 2023 and 7.66% on a three-year basis.
