Former Lyxor Asset Management executive Mark Tower was named executive director and head of business development of Asset Management One USA (AMO USA), bringing an extensive record in the alternative investments industry.
At AMO USA, Tower has been charged with developing and executing the firm’s North America business development strategy across institutional investor channels.
AMO USA is the U.S. based subsidiary of Asset Management One Co, a global investment management group headquartered in Tokyo and jointly owned by Mizuho Financial Group and Dai-ichi Life Holdings. The firm was established in 1994 and merged with Mizuho Alternative Investments — an institutional asset management company specializing in quantitative investment strategies — in 2020.
Today, the firm manages $6.6 billion on a discretionary basis across quantitative investment strategies, equity and fixed income. It’s product offering spans risk premia strategies, U.S. credit strategy, U.S. hybrid active equity strategy, global small-mid cap quality growth strategy, and customized investment strategies and solutions.
“We are very excited about Tower joining AMO USA. He brings a wealth of experience in business development and client relationship management to the firm,” said Satoshi Oshita, president and CEO of Asset Management One. “We look forward to growing our investment advisory business in North America and providing more clients with access to our investment strategies and solutions.”
Tower previously led business development efforts in Canada and co-coverage of the U.S. at Lyxor Asset Management, the hedge fund division of Amundi Asset Management who acquired Lyxor from Société Générale at the end of 2021. Lyxor’s U.S. business is set to be bought by Wilshire in Q4.
Prior to Lyxor, Tower held senior business development roles at firms including UBP Asset Management, Rock Maple Funds, and Muirfield Capital Management. He began his career at boutique mutual fund firm Orbitex and Refco Alternative Investments.
In August 2022, Anne-Sophie van Royen joined AMO USA as chief investment officer, quantitative strategies. She joined from Caisse de Depot et Placement du Quebec where she served as head of quantitative equity.
“The seasoned team at AMO USA has deep expertise across several asset classes, particularly within quantitative strategies,” said Tower. “I’m thrilled to be joining such an innovative group and eager to raise the visibility of AMO USA’s differentiated approach to the North American institutional marketplace.”
